Bay Area Discovery Museum Install Early Childhood Fab Lab

The Bay Area Discovery Museum (BADM) near San Francisco launched America’s first early childhood Digital Fabrication Lab. Children as young as 3 years old are using 3D printers and laser cutters to explore their world. The museum’s goal is to develop creativity in a world where passive “screen time” is becoming common in younger and younger children. The Digital Fabrication Lab came to fruition when Jan Morrison, president and CEO of TIES, invited BADM staff, software developers and early childhood experts to explore if these opportunities could help connect young children’s desire to tinker and explore with their hands with the push for early technology literacy.
